“I hate you! You are absolutely despicable,you’ve taken the fun away” – said the woman, as she walked up to me, while i was sitting in my regular coffee shop. I was quite stunned. She pulled the chair, next to mine and sat down (without being asked). She looked straight into my eyes, and said :
Woman: How could you have done this to me?
Me: Done what?…Sorry, but who are you?
Woman: Don’t you recognize me? I did one of the MISFIT courses, 5 years back.
Me: Hmm…(trying to recollect)
Woman: I have been wanting to do the level 2 course, but you’ve have moved so far away, that it will not be possible, even though i am so so very keen. The time spent in traveling — and getting back late, would definitely make my husband, leave me.
Me: Ahhh,,,(trying to find words,as age is catching up)
Woman: Mr. Thakore, you keep talking about “making acting and theatre accessible to people”. Please please please….start a course, somewhere in a central place.
Mr Thakore,lets get the fun back.

This little conversation with my student, made me realize, that i was going against my very objective. Thus, the good news for all aspiring level 2 students is that the new Level 2 course, will happen in one of the most central locations (NEAR CUNNINGHAM ROAD): “Ashvasan” – Smriti Nandan Cultural Centre, “Nanda-Deep”, 15/3, Palace Road, Bangalore – 560052.

The L2 Acting course will be starting on the 18th July 2010 (Sunday). It will be conducted for a period of two and a half months. The break up is as follows:

First two months: Training (Total of 48 hrs).

Last 2 weeks: Intensive training to fine tune the actors’ skills (around 25hrs).

Frequency – Once a week, Sunday 11:30am to 6:00pm, with an 15 mins to 1/2 hour’s lunch break. (Please note: During the last 2 weeks of intensive training, the frequency of classes might be more than once a week.)

Please note that the course is structured so that the students will be in a position to take acting as a profession.

We are going to add a new feature which is “acting for the camera”.

Please note that unless you are absolutely dedicated, serious, and disciplined, this course will not work for you. Punctuality and regular attendance is mandatory.

Concepts and direction from actors’ themselves.

We are taking a new step at MISF!T; the students of L2 Batch 5 would like to invite you for an interactive session, between the actors and the audience, where they will put forth, their understanding of the aspects of [real and in the moment] acting. It’s a very informal session; it is not a play or a presentation.

Registration: The first round of registration are over. The second round of interviews and registrations are now open, for the remaining 7 seats. Those who feel they have a passion for theatre (no experience required), or want to bring forth the unknown and unusual aspects of their personality, please call 9241500886 for appointments, between 11am-2:00pm and 4:00pm-7:00pm.

Note: The L1 course that usually culminates in a presentation will this time also include a short film which the participants will get a chance to audition for.

Last 2 weeks: Intensive training to fine tune the actors’ skills (around 25hrs).

Frequency – Once a week, Sunday 10:30am to 6:30pm, with an hour’s lunch break.

This will be our 25th course, and therefore the course will culminate not in a presentation, but a play that will be ticketed. For this play, the actors will be selected, strictly, depending on their discipline and commitment during the process of the course.

In addition to the play, the actors will be allowed to audition for a short film, that can be added to their profile.

Level 2 Batch 4

The L2 Batch 4 workshop finished on 20th August 2009 (you can follow the student experiences here), and they will be having their presentation on 27th August 2009.

Level 1 Batch 20

Acting course for beginners will be starting on the 18th August ‘09. It will be conducted for a period of two and a half months. The break up is as follows:

First two months: Training

Frequency -Twice a week.

Duration – Each session last for about two and a half hours.

Days – Tuesday 7:00pm to 9:30pm

Thursday 7:00pm to 9:30pm or Saturday 10:30am to 2:00pm

After the first 2 months, the next two weeks: Intensive training – fine tuning of all the aspects of the course, while preparing for the final grading.

Depending on the outcome of the grading, there might be a presentation, which is a public performance, showcasing what the students have learnt during the course.

This course has been updated to include sessions on lights, stage setup, and makeup.
