Dear Ratan Sir,
Hope this mail finds you well.
This mail is regarding the feedback that was requested from us, i.e actors from batch 27.
Phew! I dunno where to begin.
The methods & methodology of teaching at MISF!T, are quite unconventional.
But acting/theater being a practical subject, the purpose is served. All aspects of acting are being inculcated.
The most important aspect, i.e. the technicalities of the craft are being taught.
Stage business, being in an open position towards the audience, blocking,
not looking down on stage, no shuffling etc.
I have been a movie & television buff from a long time.
Watching some brilliant performances, to well written scenes, I too got inspired to take up acting.
I did envision myself taking up acting as a profession.
This would be in addition to producing, directing & writing.
After attending the workshop, I have been doing some re-thinking about the same.
Acting, like any other talent, is innate.
One can go through the entire rigmarole of taking up an acting course.
But that will teach you only so much, i.e. the technicalities & the physical aspects of it.
An innate talent cannot be given to anyone or taken away from anyone.
It can be worked on. But it has it’s limitations.
Concentration, getting into the skin of the character, improvisation, delivering one’s dialogues, emoting etc.,is something which must come from within the soul of an actor & one cannot get mechanical with the same.
Having said that, the workshop emphasizes on the theoretical & practical aspects of acting/theater.
The lessons are being taught in an ‘interesting’ manner.
The various exercises, we perform make the workshop ‘interesting’.
A selected few may even find humor of some kind in the same.
The lessons are easy to remember & to the point. They can be recalled when need be.
I have attended all the classes till date. Every class has been about a new aspect about acting.
This workshop has been a very good learning lesson for me.
It has opened my eyes & taught me all about acting from a different point of view.
Acting is much more than what we do in our imaginations.
It goes beyond re-enacting scenes from various movies in front of our dressing table mirror.
If one wants to take up a profession very seriously & risk their career, one must be very sure of the same.
Acting, is one such career option. Risky, very volatile & definitely has no securities what so ever.
We must look deep within ourselves & search for answers to questions that have not yet been framed.
This workshop does ask us a few such questions.
How serious am I about acting? How inhibited a person am I? How far am I willing to go to succeed?
Am I willing to learn? Am I willing to fail? Do I want to act all my life? Am I willing to walk an extra mile?
Having attended the classes till date, I must make a call immediately.
I am now seriously looking at other career options, all thanks to our workshop.
Producing, directing & writing too have always been subjects that have intrigued me.
I may just look into them a little more in detail. Then again. Maybe not.
Maybe, acting as career, providing one their bread & butter, or even as a hobby, is not for everyone.
Let us not lose heart over it. It is never to late to realize our current position & re-think matters.
In conclusion, I must say, the workshops are fun filled & interesting.
As mentioned earlier, some may even find a humor of some sort in it.
I met many people from different walks of life. May have even made a few friends.
Wishing you all the very best for all your future endeavors.
Regards & best wishes,
SUNNY!
