I had been in Bangalore for a year and a half with minimal exposure to theatre. Having spent a majority of my college life doing nothing but theatre I became very desperate to get back in touch with it. I realized, that over time I had begun to develop inhibitions about acting, which I didn’t have during my 4 years in college. I was looking for a workshop which would help me break those inhibitions and at the same time offer me the opportunity to learn the technical know-how of theatre.
I had heard of MISFIT a year back, but due to professional commitments I couldn’t be a part of the then Level I workshop. This time I decided, that no matter what, I would be a part of the workshop. And that’s how MISFIT level I happened.
Having spent weekends at the workshop I feel immensely satisfied (this doesn’t mean I am done, I want more!) with what has been taught so far. I started feeling a lot less restrained at work and elsewhere, which was a clear indication of how Ratan had managed to break those inhibitions.
Besides this, learning the technicalities of theatre has allowed for a structured approach to acting, something I lacked during my years in college. Also, I have witnessed people who hardly spoke during the first day of the workshop performing solid characters in front of a rather critical (courtesy Ratan) audience. This was truly amazing. It’s so wonderful to see how engrossed each and every participant of the workshop is while Ratan is conducting. Having said that, Ratan epitomizes what a good teacher is all about. Ratan is so passionate about what he’s teaching that it is virtually impossible for anyone to not want to listen for even a second of the 7 hours we spend at the workshop. All in all it’s been a great ride so far, one that I would recommend to every amateur theatre enthusiast and to every individual looking for something worthwhile and fun to do over the weekends!
Thanks and Regards
