Hello Sir,
When I walked in, I made a promise to myself that I would make the best out of this workshop. I can honestly say, that I haven’t, and there is still so much to be learnt and revised and revisited from the last 5 weeks.I’ve always been an easily-bored person. From books, to photography, to music, to travelling, to cooking, all of it interested me, but eventually gets boring. The only activity where I get to invent and re-invent myself completely, and think continuously on my feet, is acting! And I would have said the same thing before I joined the course. The only difference being, I knew zilch about acting, or directing, or anybody even remotely connected to theatre! That is where this workshop made all the difference. As creative as I’d like to believe that I am, my mind is still that of a geek. I like things broken down into simpler pieces to digest, which is precisely what I found here. Acting then wasn’t just acting, it was counter-acts and blocking and levels and o-so- many things to take care of at the same time, that there wasn’t even a moment to be distracted! The power of leaving the audience with an image, is just absolutely thrilling, and I learnt bits of this! As for direction, I found a bunch of people who would not hit me with sticks for telling them how to move each part of their body by what degree and at what angles! 😛
On a personal note, this workshop got me through quite possibly one of the worst times of my life, and I’ll always be thankful to you Sir, and to the rest of the team, Vishal, Venky Sir, Ravali, Sneha, Chaya, Parag and everyone else. A couple of weekends from now, when there’s no workshop and no plays to be enacted, I fear for some serious withdrawal symptoms!
Can honestly not think of any ways to improve this, since all of it hasn’t sunk in yet for me to analyse it. Maybe greater involvement of past students, a little more lunch time, a lot more activities, ah, but then that is just asking for 4 more weeks of classes I guess.
This will be it, Sir. I hope you like the play we present tomorrow. Have kept in mind the scene over everything else, as much as I could.
Parth.
