To sum it up in short and simple words: ‘Level 1 Course was a great learning experience!’
One of my biggest learnings from after having gone through it was that one cannot become a actor overnight or after attending a weekend crash course. Like with any art form, acting has its technical stuff and actor’s own creativitiy that needs to get blended to produce something worth showcasing to the world. I must say that in this course both of these aspects got amply addressed. I learnt the technical aspects of acting, stage and various minute details that Ratan gave it away during the classes (that could have come only from someone who has had a vast experience of theatre and acting). There was enough opportunities given for us to be creative and practice acting so that each of our unique capabilities can surface.
Also there were so many out-of-classroom activities: observational skills – interviewing some people in public was real fun, the blind fold exercise in public was a unique experience in leaning to trust and lead.
The kind of atmosphere Ratan creates during the classes is quite amazing – everyone feels comfortable with each other and there are exercises where one learns to trust the other person(s).
Overall what is dished out is a 360 degree experiance. For a 2.5 month time frame, the amount of material covered was quite an achivement!
I surprised myself by attending almost all the classes and also going through the rigor of the final grading.
It was really great to see the previous batch students come in to watch the grading performances and give appreciations and critical comments.
The set-up for the grading performances was also neatly done with all the professional lighting and stage settings.
Overall for me this couse worked.
It demands from you to apply yourself, if you want to transform yourself into an actor.
I feel after the completing the course that the journey has just begun!
