Dear Baba,
It took me 5 years to join L1, but after completing that I was very sure that I want to join L2. With all the warnings that it won’t be same or fun as L1, I was little nervous but very much excited about L2 and seniors at Misf!t also kept it as a surprise and just told that it would be very different or could be completely opposite to L1.
For me L1 was a lot of fun, technicalities, first and crucial step for L2, while L2 was the most effective experience in the journey of self-discovery and exploration. It was about how to “let go” yourself, the “I” and become the “character” which you also taught that won’t happen overnight, but keep moving on the path and keep exploring. Every exercise in the class, each tear, smile and frown took me closer to the fact you taught that “acting is not about acting” and actions can generate impact only if the emotions come from an honest place.
It was not easy to perform with the lines which sometimes made no sense, but at the same time “bad day” lines were very helpful in understanding the concept that it’s not about what you say, but how you say it. Initially we didn’t sit as a group to write the actual meaning that we want to convey through the lines, but once we sat with Rose and did it, we felt how important the exercise is.
Baba, the evening when you performed with Venky and Vishal was mesmerizing and a great learning experience. That day I learnt that how important it is for an actor to create an external character and to have reservoir of characters. Though it seemed very effortless but with the exercises you gave in class I understood to certain extent that how much effort is needed to make it look so effortless.
The time when I used to practice at home on weekdays, my bhabhi started watching and giving me feedbacks and we started developing a bond which was missing. In the process both of us realized that with all the differences we have there are so many common things which connect us. L2 made me more expressive, and when I started sharing my feelings it helped in building trust and took me closer to my friends and family and especially with my Bhabhi who is a new member to our family.
The true story exercise was one of the most surprising experience I ever had. Before the exercise I thought it would be just fine to share one true incident from my life and to listen to others, but it came out totally as a surprise. Each one with their story gave me goosebumps, not because they were unusual stories, but because of the honesty and trust with which each of us shared that. That exercise not just helped us in understanding our mannerisms, but also built trust that brought all of us closer as a group.
After L2 I felt there is so much more to learn and it’s just the beginning. After the L2 grading performance, I felt something was missing and I was not very happy but at the same time I felt if not today, it will work some other day, and the reason behind that feeling was the way you taught us.
Baba, you are the best teacher”, and the way you teach and engage with us gives a feeling of assurance that whatever is the problem it can be discussed with you and you will guide us with love and rationale. L2 is the best learning experience of my life which teaches that the final grading performance is just the beginning of learning.
Thank you for creating such a conducive environment for learning 📷
Best Regards,
Ankita
