The MISFIT Experience

There are many acting institutes in Bangalore. But what attracted me to was ‘MISFIT’ that none of the others seemed to break down the nuances of acting into such detail and structure. So you can imagine that I went to the workshop thinking that we would be taught an extremely technical course filled with meticulous detailing. Yes,Ratan is meticulous. Yes,the course was detailed. But the joy of attending the MISFIT workshop lay as much in the brilliant imagination of Ratan as in the technicalities of the workshop. Everyday was an exercise in breaking our reservations, expanding our boundaries and working comfortably with strangers. The USP of this course lies as much in the exercises that we were asked to perform as in knowing the technical details behind them.

The truth is Ratan, alongwith our dedicated seniors, made the finer points of acting easy to pick up by simply making the exercises plain fun!

One of the first things that our teacher and guru told us was that he wouldn’t let us formally introduce ourselves to the class. In a few hours it became obvious why. The skits, exercises, interactions that we performed slowly made performers out of the shyest people in our class.

At the end of the workshop, we have realised that no introductions would have been necessary. I made wonderful friends with my classmates by simply acting, reacting and interacting with them.

My biggest thanks and deepest gratitude to MISFIT for these wonderful weeks!
